─── Common Questions

Before you

break ground

The questions we get asked most on the first call. If yours is not here, pick up the phone and ask it.

In Washington State, property owners are generally responsible for maintaining, repairing, and replacing the entire side sewer pipe connecting their house or commercial building to the municipal main sewer, including any portion running beneath the public right-of-way.

Common warning signs include persistent drain backups, slow-draining sinks or toilets, sewage odors in the yard, wet or unusually lush green patches of grass, standing water near the foundation, and gurgling noises in your plumbing fixtures.

Tree root intrusion is the leading cause of pipe damage in the Pacific Northwest. Age-related pipe deterioration (such as old concrete, orangeburg, or cast iron), ground shifting, soil settling, and heavy vehicle pressure over shallow lines can also cause cracks and structural collapses.

We conduct a sewer scope video inspection by inserting a high-resolution camera directly into the pipe. This allows us to pinpoint exact depth, location, and structural issues like cracks or root blockages without unneeded digging.

Yes. Most cities and counties across Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom County require specific utility, plumbing, or right-of-way excavation permits. We handle local permitting coordination and line up required municipal inspections to guarantee full code compliance.

A side sewer carries wastewater from indoor plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets, showers) to the municipal sanitary sewer or septic system. A storm drain carries rain and surface runoff away from foundations and driveways into catch basins or storm retention systems.

Most standard residential side sewer or storm drain replacements are completed in 1 to 3 days. Timeline factors depend on pipe depth, distance to the main connection, soil conditions, and required city utility inspections.

Mat, Seth, and his crew were excellent communicators. I always knew everything that was happening during a project that had logistics challenges. The jobs consisted of: 1) Restoration of a 2500 foot mountain driveway. 2) Installed a 4500 square foot asphalt pad. 3) Removed a huge old maple

Kudos also to Josh and crew at Black Lake Asphalt. The most efficient work crew (10 men), I’ve ever seen.

Baxter and crew are prompt, efficient, competent. We had a huge tree taken down. All the workers were speedy, cheerful, and cooperative. The price was reasonable, the clean-up was well done. We are delighted with the work, and recommend this company highly.

Matt and his team did an excellent job! Cleared a section of our property in one day. We now have an unobstructed view of the mountains that sit behind our property. Highly recommend them!

We called Baxter's for a quote to remove 25+ trees and grade the land. He came next day and gave us a quote same day. Matt was very professional and transparent which we appreciated (unlike other quotes we received). Matt has great communication skills and answered all questions we had! Matt and his team started the job the same week and showed up on time, every day as promised. The team were super skilled, professional, and respectful. I was truly impressed with how quick they worked with a high level of respect to the property (and safety!) The team fulfilled our agreed upon job in a timely manner and left the site looking clean! Matt was honest when we asked about additional add-on things and told us to 'wait and see' instead of jumping in and adding things we may not need (French Drain). If we have any other needs that Matt offers, we'll definitely be giving him a call and recommending Baxter to our friends and family! We're grateful for the services rendered and are so happy with the completed job! Don't hesitate to hire these guys!
